Add Chengdu & pandas to your China trip
Already planning Beijing and Shanghai? Chengdu can add giant pandas, teahouses and a different pace to your China journey. Start with the nights you can spare and the connections you already have. We can discuss a city stay or a longer Sichuan extension without assuming that the rest of your trip needs to change.

Give the stop a shape
A panda visit is a reason to come; the rest of the stay is a chance to see Chengdu at street level. A teahouse table, a park path and a neighbourhood meal offer a different rhythm from Beijing’s palace courtyards and Shanghai’s riverfront. Choose the experiences that matter, rather than filling every available hour.
Our existing three-day Chengdu itinerary includes two nights and one full sightseeing day between arrival and departure. It is a starting point, not three full days of sightseeing. If your flights or trains leave only a short middle day, we should discuss another night or fewer visits.
| Time available | A sensible starting point |
|---|---|
| 3 days / 2 nights | A focused Chengdu stay: arrival, one full day for the agreed panda and city programme, then departure. |
| More nights in Chengdu | More room for parks, teahouses and cultural visits, with the actual number of nights agreed around your connections. |
| 5 days / 4 nights in Sichuan | Our separate Chengdu–Huanglong–Jiuzhaigou route includes rail travel and mountain visits. It is a different journey, not an extra day in the city. |
Work with the trip you already have
Tell us your planned arrival city, departure city and any fixed travel dates. Where a ticket is already booked, the date and approximate arrival time are enough for an initial enquiry; we do not need a booking reference or passport copy.
We can then consider whether Chengdu fits between Beijing and Shanghai or works better before or after another stop. Train and flight choices depend on your dates. We do not treat a transfer day as a full sightseeing day, or promise a connection before checking it.

Pandas, with room for the rest of Chengdu
At the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, viewing follows the animals’ routines and the site’s rules. A particular panda, activity or enclosure cannot be guaranteed. This is an ordinary visitor experience; holding, feeding or touching pandas is not part of the proposal.
For the city, choose a quieter balance: tea in People’s Park, a cultural visit or time to walk a neighbourhood. An outlying teahouse such as Guanyin Pavilion needs its own travel time. We will distinguish the agreed visits from optional ideas before you book.
Keep the mountain extension separate
Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong need their own transport, visiting time and overnight arrangements. They are not a casual excursion between a morning panda visit and an evening flight. If mountains are your main interest, compare our five-day Sichuan route with a city-only stop; mountain altitude and walking preferences also belong in that discussion.
A few practical questions
Can I add Chengdu after booking my international flights?
Often it is worth discussing, but the answer depends on your fixed dates and remaining nights. Share the broad outline first; no change to an existing booking is assumed.
Is the price simply added to my existing trip?
The published Chengdu and Sichuan routes have their own reference prices and inclusions. An extension is quoted for its agreed services and dates; it is not automatically the same as a fixed add-on charge.
